Project Updates

Lakewood Historical Society Helps Restore Master-Slave Clocks

The Lakewood Historical Society recently donated $800 to aid in the restoration of the Master-Slave Clock system at the Denver Federal Center Museum, located in Building 41 of the Denver Federal Center. The museum contains over 360 artifacts that document the story of this area of Lakewood from when it was part of the Hayden Ranch, to the development of an arms and ammunition plant, to the current use of the site as a federal office campus.

In 1941, the War Department purchased land that was part of the Hayden Ranch with the purpose of constructing an arms and ammunition plant in anticipation of WWII. Remington Arms Company operated the Denver Ordinance Plant which existed from 1941-1945. After the War, the Federal Government turned many of the buildings on the land into Federal offices. Today, the Denver Federal Center employs more Federal Government workers than any area outside of Washington, D.C.
